Now that I’m back in Austin I’ve been looking for a suitable place to train. I visited Kreig Fields for my training session today, I think it will be an good place to train as there is plenty of open space as well as bathrooms and a water fountain. As for my training, I decided to keep it rather simple.
I began my workout with footwork – as always. The main focus of my training today was to work on and hopefully to perfect the five attacks bridging drill. The five attacks drill is the foundation of everything in the system (This drill teaches you the concept of bridging. If you cannot successfully bridge on your opponent, you will NEVER be able to enter in safely.
In addition to this, I also emphasized my mechanics within our traditional warm up drill, or “The Dirty Dozen”. I have seen very few people do this entire warm up correctly, as it is surprisingly difficult. The Dirty Dozen is important not only as a warmup, but also because it introduces you (or any Pekiti beginner) to some of the more “advanced” manipulations found later in the system.
I later went on to practice a few forms. I definitely need to work on my florette form. While my overhand florettes are alright, my underhand florettes definitely need some work.
